Middle class background, minor troubles with the law as a teenager,
nothing severe.

She's smart, but has had no focus in her life.  She went to college
because that's what you do, but with no drive or ambition, she flunked
out.

She didn't want to tell her parents, as she didn't want to hear their
umpteenth lecture about applying herself.  She spent 2 months pretending
to still be in college while she worked and goofed off and tried to figure
out what to do with her life.

She joined the navy as the result of losing a bet.  Something to do with
tequila and darts...it doesn't matter now.  

Since then she has discovered that military life suits her.  For her
entire life it's been far too easy for her to get out of her
responsibilities, therefore she was never invested in anything.

She has worked her way through the ranks and into OCS and is now an
ensign.
