The Hamlet class Destroyer Transport is a Jump-3 capable ship suitable for patrol work and similar duties. It is not intended for heavy naval actions, and is usually accompanied by escort ships of some kind.

The class carries two companies of marines, and is streamlined in order to allow planetfall to drop troops if neccessary. The troops may be dropped through shafts by and through the landing struts in zero-G, low gravity or high-altitude drop situations. The landing strut also contain stairs for use after full landings and for embarkation of large numbers of personnel planetside.

An interesting feature of this class is that the launch is carried on its tail in a silo-like configuration.

The ship is equipped with both fuel scoops and fuel refiners for extended operations.

Deck 7
The central elevator runs the length of the ship, although access to some decks and doors is restricted. On this deck, as on all decks, there are ladders running the outside of the elevator shaft accessible via sliding panels.

The cargo bay is accessed by two large bay doors on the sides, while the launch bay is accessed through an iris hatch on the top of the ship. The room marked "1" is an airlock and suit room. The cargo bay can be pressurized and often is, but the corridor to elevator may also function as an airlock in case it is not.

The particle beam fires "up," through the top of the ship.

Deck 6
As is typical of most decks, there is access to the launch bay. Usual practice is to keep the launch bay at zero-G to allow easier loading and loading of the craft while it is standing on its tail. The room labled "1" is a fresher for use of the bridge crew.
Deck 5
The officers's quarters open into the officer's lounge. The four single staterooms for the Captain and Department heads have small Freshers. The other officers share a large head off the lounge. All crew share a large head off the crew lounge. The entire crew share a mess kitchen and a gym, although scheduling keeps fraternization to a minimum.

The crew quarters open out into a circular hall which allows easy access to the battery stations for the gunners. The batteries are located around the outside of the hull at this level and are usually referred to as "waist guns," and their crew as "waist gunners."

As usual, there is access to the launch bay.

Deck 4
The bulk of this deck is taken up with the manouvre drive and the crawlspaces needed to access it. The jump drives and their crawlspaces also take up a good chunk, as well as a chunk on the lower level. Six main engines mounted around the hull provide the actual propulsion.
Deck 3
The bulk of this deck is taken up with the power plant and the crawlspaces needed to access it. The jump drives and their crawlspaces also take up a good chunk, as well as a chunk on the higher level. The fuel refining units and scoops are mounted on the hull at this level. When taking on fuel from planetary water sources, the ship is submerged at least to this deck.
Deck 2
This deck is given over to the ship's troops. Most often, the Hamlet class carries marines, to the tune of two companies. The lounge and gym are on this deck as well. All staterooms are double occupancy and fresher facilities are located in the gym.
Deck 1
This deck contains the rest of the troop quarters and a common area also used for mess. The armory is fitted with doors which slide in on each other to provide access for single persons or for large numbers. Each landing strut is equipped with a dropshaft; an irised door leading directly out to the exterior. For drops to vaccum or hostile atmospheres, the entire level may be depressurized allowing the complement of troops to drop quickly to the surface. Each drop shaft is also fitted with an extendable boarding tube for ship to ship boarding actions. For drops where speed is less essential, the boarding tube may be used as an airlock to drop individual squads. Near each dropshaft is a set of boarding stairs built into the landing struts. The top and bottom of the stairs may be sealed so that the stairs function as an airlock, or they may be open to the atmosphere allowing boarding at friendly starbases or recovery of troops after an action.
