le Main-d'Argent, called by some Nuada, filius Terminus, follower of Flambeau

Lemain, as he is also sometimes called, is an odd creature. The third of fourth year of his apprenticeship he suffered a terrible lab accident while working with Ignem, which burned away his left arm, and covered the left side of his torso and face with horrible scars. He blames Terminus, his master, for the accident, since Terminus was pushing him harder in Ignem than he (Lemain) felt he was ready to go.

Whether the accident was the cause or the result, no one knows, but Lemain never gained any real measure of skill with Ignem, a result which does not please Terminus. Instead, Lemain become perhaps the best Terram mage in the covenant of Calipher, where he was trained. He is further more convinced that the destructive power of the earth is greater, if less swift, than that of fire - another view which does not go over well with your average Flambeau, or with Terminus in particular. In fact, relations with Terminus have been strained since the date of the accident, and although Lemain passed his gauntlet easily and destructively he still feels that Terminus persecutes him, and that he is not accepted by Flambeau in general.

Given his inclinations and his relationship with Terminus, it is no surprise that soon after his gauntlet, he left Calipher to find a more suitable home. The idea of Lakehome, buried beneath the ground, was appealing as was its distance from Calipher - which is located in the East.

Since his arrival, he has became as familar as almost anyone with the tunnels of Lakehome - he often spends hours in conversation with the stones themselves. He also wanders the remoter tunnels with more regularity than most. Visitors to his chambers, or to some of the more unvisited areas will find his sculptures, made out of living rock through the use of magic, dealing with a variety of themes. Sometimes, when he has finished a sculpture, he will find that the last lump he removes is a gemstone which is also raw Te vis. This happens rarely. Examination has revealed that this is not a factor of the rock itself, but rather an inexplicable interaction between the magic he uses to sculpt, and the numinious art which makes a sculpture great. It is no coincidence that the sculptures which produce the vis are also Lemain's greatest works.

During the last few years of his apprenticeship, he made an arm of silver, which he wears strapped to the stump of his missing left arm. He has been known to animate that arm and use it as he would any flesh and blood arm. This arm is what gives him his name, and some who have a knowledge of celtic myth have jokingly referred to him as Nuada.

In Calipher, all of the inhabitants are required by custome to wear masks. Lemain continues this tradition, which is usually fine with his fellows since his scarred face is not pleasant to look on. His mask is of silver, and, somewhat unsettlingly, often shifts it's expression to reflect it's wearer's attitude.

He has a fondness for silver and sometimes return from his jaunts in the caverns with a nugget or two of raw ore, which he refines in his lab and turns into jewelry or sculpture. He always wears rings on his fingers, bracelets on his arms, and necklaces about his neck. The rings and necklaces are sometimes set with small gemstones, and this is the way that he usually carries his person Te vis supply.

He is usually dressed in one of two ways. When he is in the well travelled parts of the covenant, he wears a simple hooded black robe shot through with silver threads. When he is wandering the deeper reaches of the caverns, and one assumes in his sanctum, he wears leggings and sturdy boots, a tight fitting woolen shirt and, often, a tight fitting leather jerkin. For his travels, he will usually have a small backpack as well.

Physically, Lemain is slightly below average height, and sturdily built. His longish dark brown hair is hidden under the robe, or tied back. He is almost always at least partly covered with dust and dirt, and his fingernails are never clean. The scars which cover the left side of the body are repulsive in the extreme, which may explain why he is rarely seen without his mask. His voice is low and strong, but he speaks excruciatingly slowly. So slowly that his listeners often lose interest in what he is saying before he makes his point. He moves slowly of habit, but if circumstances so dictate, he can move with as much alacrity as the next man.

The Sanctum of Lemain

The Sanctum and Lab of Lemain is located deeper and lower in the caves than most of the rooms. The entrance to the suite of rooms is marked by the traditional sign, although in the case of Lemain it has been engraved into the floor, and the traceries filled with silver.

The doorway itself has been sculpted by the magus into the shape of a two headed serpent, with the heads facing each other across the top of the door, fangs bared. Somewhere above the serpents there must be a pool or stream, (or perhaps there isn't) for the fangs slowly drip water. The effect is is a bit unsettling. (The quality roll for his sculpture was 24.)

Inside the first room, visible from the doorway, one can see that there is almost no furniture in the conventional sense in the room. Rather, there are benches, tables and so forth charmed up from the living rock, and sometimes decorated with the carvings and gargoyles which are both Lemain's hobby and a facet of his magic. These items are covered with pillows and clothes where appropriate, although the quality of these varies widely. There is a large fireplace, in front of which has been drawn up from the floor a stone wall, so that there is only a small gap at the top through which to feed the fire.

Beyond that, but around a corner, is another room or rooms, but few venture within.
