Lemain Build his Sanctum

1205, End of Summer

At the end of summer, Lemain let it be known that he intended to construct his laboratory by casting Terrus' "Making the Lofty Cavern" from the text. Terrus authorized use of Perdo vis from the stores, and Osprey explained that expanding the caverns improved the Covenant from Terrus' view. Of course, if Lemain failed, he would owe the vis back. The simple casting would not exempt Lemain from Covenant service, either.

Osprey and Lilia gathered to watch Lemain make the attempt to cast the spell of the eight magnitude. Lemain had the servants set a lectern in the tunnel near the spot he had chosen. Laying the Perdo reeds across the top, he began to read. The power began to gather around him as he read for several minutes, then he shouted out the last syllables of the spell and grasped the reeds. The reeds crumbled to dust in his hands and as they did so a hole appeared in the wall. Lemain stepped forward, gesturing left and right, to indcate where walls should be. The power of Terrus' spell caused rock to vanish and columns to harden, arches to appear. Lemain waved and an archway appeared and momnts later a second room took shape. Concentration firm, he molded nooks and closets, then expanded the original room somewhat. Another room was added off the first, but then Lemain stumbled slightly and the power of the spell visibly dissipated.

Lemain looked around at his new sanctum, slumped a little with exhaustion.

"Well done," said Lilia.

"Thank you," said Lemain in his slow manner of speech. "There is still much work to be done." He sounded pleased at the prospect.
